Cleaning Smoke Damage In Fabrics
One of the most common questions we are asked when it comes to cleaning elderly peoples homes is can we clean smoke damaged items. When someone smokes cigarettes in their homes the smoke will damage many different types of items. The short answer is of course yes, but there are many different items and specialist cleaning equipment to use for this type of clean that may include additional services.
Firstly any kind of fabric will become stained with the tobacco smoke, both with discolouring the fabric, but also the smell will stick to fabrics the worst. This will be everything from curtains, to the carpets to couches and fabric sofas. When deep cleaning a carpet this is an optional extra but will remove smoke stains and the smell from the carpet. Often after smoke damage is removed from carpets you can visibly see and smell the difference.
When it comes to fabric suites, curtains and sofas the process is very similar. They will be stained by tar damage from smoking in the home, but a deep clean of the couch or sofa will clean away the stains and remove the smell from the fabrics. We can also provide this cleaning service.
Cleaning Smoke Damage to Glass and Wood
Cleaning smoke damage from other items will vary, depending on what the item is made from and also the amount of damage done to the items. The vast majority of items can be cleaned though. When it comes to cleaning smoke damage from for example gloss paint we would always recommend having them cleaned. This will help to remove the layer of tar from the paint which will leave a clean surface to repaint. You will however have to repaint as the cleaning process will not remove all the yellow damage done to the paint.
Wooden items can often be saved with a thorough deep cleaning process with stronger cleaning products. It is similar to glass and other items, a good clean, which we offer via our “deep clean” service will remove most of the these stains. Glass can nearly always be cleaned back to a like new condition.
Removing Smoke Staining From uPVC and Plastics
When it comes to Upvc window frames, these often get the worst of the damage, but can be cleaned with some dedication from our cleaning team. They will turn yellow from the damage done by smoking, but the tar and tobacco damage can be removed from white plastic items with the right products.
As you can see from the image above we had cleaned the part at the left hand side of the window frame but the right hand side and centre was still to be cleaned. When we were finished the full window frame was cleaned, smoke staining was removed, the smell and yellow colour has been returned to a fresh white colour and the client was very happy.
Tobacco staining might look like its time to start again, but as you can see from the images above, we can remove the tar, remove the smell, remove the smoke staining and bring your property back to its best!
